Moving all of your belongings from one household to another is no simple task. It takes planning, patience and effective packing prowess. With so much to do within a fixed period of time, typically taking place in a chaotic atmosphere, mistakes are bound to happen. Try your best to keep your packing blunders to a minimum with these examples of what to look out for and what not to do when packing for a move!
As with most things in life, waiting until the last minute is never an advisable idea. I don’t care how many times you claim to, “work best under pressure.” Moving is already a stressful situation, don’t make it even harder on yourself by saving everything for the very end.

Having more supplies than you need is infinitely better than running out of supplies while you’re in the middle of packing and have a good flow going. Purchase a variety of supplies and purchase more packing supplies than you think you’ll need. You can always return what you do not end up using.
When you get fed up with packing, it can be very tempting to just start filling up a bunch of large boxes to the brim with stuff. Sure, you’ll have your stuff packed in no time, but at what cost? This too is why having a variety (as mentioned above) of packing supplies, like boxes of different shapes and sizes, is incredibly useful. Smaller boxes are ideal for heavier items since they are easier to carry. Lighter items work well in larger boxes since you can fit a lot inside. Keep the weight within your boxes balanced and fill in any spaces with packing paper to keep your items safe from hitting into one another. Continue to fight off that urge to pack haphazardly and resume packing properly. You’ll be thankful for it later!
Set yourself up for success when unpacking your boxes by utilizing labels. Labeling your boxes might seem like a no-brainer, but it does tack on an extra step to the packing process so not everyone abides or remembers to do so. When you label your boxes write legibly, include what the general contents are, and note which room of the house the contents belong in.
When you’re in the process of moving, disorder is a given. All of your stuff is in disarray, some things are already packed away, and other items haven’t been seen since the undertaking started. Before you pack everything up and get ready to walk out of that door one last time, pack yourself (and the members of your family, if applicable) an essentials bag. This bag will comprise of things like a change of clothes, toothbrush & toothpaste, phone charger, necessary medications, etc. and get you through the first night or two in your new place.

There are lots of different ways to go about picking out the furniture for your place. While some people would prefer to purchase a costly, high-quality wooden desk, others are just as happy to settle for an inexpensive desk from IKEA that’s made mostly from particleboard. If you’re in the latter group, then you probably have a decent amount of furniture that you had to assemble yourself before it became a functional furnishing in your home. The way you brought those pieces into your home, is the same way that they’re going to have to leave your home—disassembled.
Yes, it’s a pain to do but you have to remember that these types of furniture are not made to be moved when fully constructed. Be sure to take the time to disassemble these furnishings.
